How to get long curly hair? 5 Secrets Revealed

Have you ever been jealous of the girls with long curly hair? Me too! Actually, I’ve never even had long hair. From time to time, I would google “How to get long curly hair,” but the given tips were not very helpful.

All my life I was struggling with the split-ends and breakage. A hairdresser once told me that this is in my genes, and I will never be able to grow my curly hair as long as I would like.

Well, that’s where she was wrong.

After years and years of wearing shoulder-length hair, I finally see that my work pays off. You can get long curly hair too!

How long does it take for curly hair to grow?

It doesn’t matter if you have straight or curly hair; it grows at the same rate of ½” (or almost 1.3 cm) per month.

You might think that it is some kind of mistake as all the straight-haired people around seem to grow their hair overnight. Well, it takes longer for curly hair to be long-long as it grows in a curl.

I believe that your friends are always surprised when they see you with straightened hair, right? Your hair is much longer when it’s straight!

Even though curly and straight hair grows at the same rate, it still takes ETERNITY to have long hair.

If you ever had bangs, you know how hard it is to grow it out. To ensure that your hair grows as fast as it can, you will need to moisturize it like crazy: deep conditioners, leave-ins, and all that jazz.

5 tips on how to make curly hair grow faster

As a person who tried almost EVERYTHING to make my hair grow, I can now safely say that these tips are good, and I wish that I knew this 15 years ago.

#1 Take good care of your scalp

Healthy hair begins from the healthy scalp.

taking care of your scalp

Growing healthy long hair will be mission impossible if you have a product buildup or a dehydrated scalp.

First of all, get rid of the buildup: use shampoo with sulfates BUT WITHOUT silicones and then treat your hair with a deep conditioner as shampoos with SLS/SLES tend to dry out our hair.

Massaging your scalp is the best tip anyone could give you as it stimulates hair cuticles and blood circulation. You can do it the old-school way (with your fingers) or buy a scalp massager. Both methods work perfectly, but you have to do it regularly. Once a week is not enough. Personally, I massage my scalp every day for 10 minutes. I do this in the evening while watching TV.

Scalp massage not only helps to grow your hair faster, but it also might thicken your hair!

Don’t make any excuses. You have to try it.

#2 Avoid damaging hairstyles

Receding hairline is every woman’s biggest nightmare. Unfortunately, it can be caused by tight hairstyles. Don’t braid your hair too tight and avoid tight ponytails or buns.

Loose hairstyles should be a no-brainer if you want to have long hair because tight hairstyles cause damage to your hair follicles. We want to protect them, right?

Oh, and don’t use hair bands made of rubber as it’s incredibly damaging to your hair because of harsh constant friction.

#3 Leave your hair to a professional

avoid damaging hairstyles

That’s the biggest mistake I constantly made. “Oh, it’s just a hair, I can do it myself” Well, now I know that I couldn’t.

It was hard to find a good hairdresser who knew how to cut curly hair properly, but my life changed when I managed to find one.

Yes, getting a haircut might be expensive, but a) it helps to manage your hair better, and b) it can help you prevent split-ends and breaking. Even if you want your hair to grow, you still need to keep them healthy. What’s the point of having long but thinning hair?

Scissors are not a devil and you should cut your hair from time to time.

#4 Choose curl-friendly products

I spent tons of money on my haircare but still couldn’t see any results: my hair was dry and brittle.

Now I know that it’s not about the price. It’s about the ingredients. The biggest brands spend a fortune on marketing, so you start to believe that THIS product will save your life (and hair).

Be smart and check the ingredients list before buying shampoo, conditioner, or other hair products. Avoid sulfates, silicones, harsh alcohols, and parabens. You don’t need that stuff on your beautiful hair.

#5 Conditioning is key

If you want your hair to grow long, you must condition your hair to ensure proper moisture.

Before shampooing your hair, use a hair conditioner: it protects your hair ends from shampoo that might dry out your hair. Then, add conditioner after rinsing out the shampoo and leave it on your hair for as long as the manufacturer says on the label.

On every other wash day, use a deep conditioner and leave it for 30 minutes or more. It works wonders!

How to get long curly hair? The bottom line

If you want to grow your curly hair fast, try massaging your scalp with or without natural oils, avoid the heat, moisturize your hair on the wash day as well as between washes, and don’t forget that the journey to long, healthy hair begins on your plate!

Get enough sleep, drink water, and get the hair you deserve!
