I want to be honest with you: it might take some time and patience. Why? Well, your scalp is already used to regular shampooing so it might feel extra oily and greasy if you try to take an extra day out of it.
Yes, there might be hard times but just think about that extra hour of sleep in the morning. No more washing and blow-drying your hair every morning!
However, if you can’t or don’t want to leave hair unwashed for more than a day, that’s also fine because these tricks are here to help you to get that extra hour of sleep in the morning!
8 Tips for Greasy Hair Fix
1. Pick your hair products carefully
This is the most important part as the hair products that are suitable for your scalp skin and hair type are the best investment. In fact, if your hair always feels and looks greasy don’t start buying expensive scalp scrubs but start from what’s on your bathroom shelf instead.
Avoid silicones, sulfates, and harsh alcohols. You can read more about picking the right hair products and why it is so important in this article.
2. Your diet is important

What you eat has a direct impact on your skin, hair & general wellbeing.
If you want to have healthy and non-greasy hair try to eat foods rich in vitamin B. Fish, poultry, legumes, spinach, kale salad, and other leafy greens are good sources of vitamin B. This vitamin plays a major role in regulating the amount of sebum produced.
Avoid highly processed foods, sugary drinks, try to eat healthier, and watch the positive change!
Zinc & selenium are also very important when we are talking about hair and scalp health.
3. Stop washing your hair every day
When your roots are getting greasy the first thing you want to do is to go to the shower and wash your hair.
However, if you are doing this every day, your scalp gets used to it and starts to produce more oil. Start washing your hair every other day and give your hair some time to adjust.
4. Use clarifying shampoo
You have to deep clean your hair from time to time as it helps to remove build-up caused by shampoos, conditioners, and other hair products. Also, it helps to effectively unclog scalp pores. Healthy scalp = healthy hair.
I’m using clarifying shampoo once a month and I feel that that’s enough for me. Start with using a clarifying shampoo once a week.
5. Apply conditioner on your hair ends only
Conditioner is not meant to be used on the scalp and many people are using conditioners and masks wrong.

Do you know how to tell if you are using a conditioner incorrectly? If you still have almost a full bottle of shampoo but already run out of conditioner then you’re doing something wrong.
Conditioners and masks contain lots of oils so the higher you apply them, the faster your hair will become oily and dirty. Try using these products only on your hair ends.
If you are using a lot of conditioner to detangle your hair, try using a wide-tooth comb instead while in the shower.
6. Stop using so much product!
The dime size of shampoo is enough to wash your hair well. The same goes for the conditioner. Stop wasting the product (and your money)!
As a hairstylist, I recommend washing your hair twice but with less product.
7. Always use lukewarm water
Hot water encourages your scalp to overproduce oil to compensate for dryness caused by the hot water. The water that it’s too hot will leave your hair frizzy, dull, and can even cause dandruff.
Always use lukewarm water when washing your hair if you want to achieve the best results.
8. Rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar
This is trending on TikTok and other social media platforms right now. The best part is that you will only need a cup of water and a few spoons of ACV.
You can use a spritzer or simply pour this mixture through the hair and leave for 5 minutes or so.
Apple cider vinegar has tons of benefits: it balances scalp pH, boosts shine, could help strengthen hair, and even reduces color fading!
