Denman Brush for Curly Hair: Do You Need One?

Want to have instagrammable curly hair? You don’t need much, just to be born under a lucky star. But if you are not a unicorn who has flawless, frizz-free curls without a minimum effort, you might be needing a Denman brush for curly hair.

If you have an internet connection, you probably already know something about this brush. Youtubers, Instagramers, and TikTokers are all talking about Denman D3 or D8. Is it worth the hype?

What is a Denman brush?

a short story of how denman brushes were created

It is a styling tool for wavy and curly hair. Denman Classic brush (D3) creates juicy ringlets, gives curls more volume, and helps to prevent frizz.

The reason why this brush is so popular right now might sound pretty simple – the D3 brush is specifically created for styling naturally curly hair.

D3 increases the definition of curls and spirals which is what all the curlies around the globe want, right?

If you are looking for a brush for detangling your curls, this one is not for you as you can only use a D3 styling brush when the hair is wet or damp.

The story of how these brushes were created is also interesting and fun!

So, Denman D3 and D4 work wonders on type 3 and 4 hair. What about waves?

If you have type 2 hair, you have to try this brush as well! TikTokers and Youtubers already showed the Denman magic and how one simple brush transforms wavy hair into voluminous curls.

If you want your curls to hold, don’t hesitate to use mousse or hair gel after creating those beautiful clumps.

How to use Denman brush for curly hair?

Your hair has to be wet or damp. Do not use the brush on dry hair!

Step 1. Evenly apply a leave-in conditioner and styling cream of choice.

Step 2. Divide your hair into smaller sections.

Step 3. Brush downwards and flip out the ends. I’m always starting from the hair under.

Step 4. Scrunch with the microfiber towel or cotton T-Shirt.

Oh, and I also left a great Manes by Mell video about how to style curly hair with this brush at the end of the article. Don’t forget to watch it!

Denman brush dupe

i bought denman d8 brush for curly hair

Okay, I have to admit that my first styling brush was a dupe of Denman D3. Why? Well, the reason is simple: I was not sure if I am going to like the brush and was not ready to spend $20 on it.

After buying a cheap version of the world-renowned brush I had to admit that I LOVE it and that it changed my curl pattern from 2C to at least 3A.

That’s why I decided that I have to buy an original one. It seemed somewhat fair. Are the results better? In my opinion, yes.

I’m getting a more sleek result and the quality is incomparable. It’s so much easier to take a row or few (this step is inevitable if you have thick hair) if needed.

After having such great results with the Denman D3 brush I decided to TREAT MYSELF and bought a Denman D8. Review coming soon!

Curl defining brush

Sure, there are lots of styling brushes on the market, and it’s getting harder and harder to pick the right one for you. There are lots of cheaper curl-defining brushes as well, so why choose the Denman brush for curly hair?

Because it’s magic. The shape, weight, and pins of this brush are created for unruly curly hair so do not hesitate and feel the power of the Denman D3. Just don’t use it on dry hair!

Get the hair you deserve!

P.S. Already have a Denman D3 but not sure how to use it? This video helped me a lot:
